Zayed National Museum Opens Its Doors: A Landmark in UAE Cultural Heritage

The UAE has officially opened the Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat Island – a landmark that presents an extraordinary journey through eight thousand years of history, culture, art, and innovation. Its inauguration coincides with the nation’s celebrations of the 54th Union Day, and the museum will begin receiving visitors on 3 December 2025.

The opening ceremony was led by Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in the presence of the rulers and members of the Supreme Council, at the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District.

The Zayed National Museum chronicles the legacy of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, offering an immersive narrative of the land’s history from ancient civilizations to modern times. This storytelling experience blends advanced technology, audiovisual installations, archaeological discoveries, and historical collections.

Architecturally, the museum stands out as a masterpiece. Its design, inspired by the soaring wings of a falcon, reflects the UAE’s aspirations and its deep-rooted connection to nature, heritage, and cultural identity.

The museum serves as a vital link between the UAE’s past, present, and future – presenting the nation’s culture, traditions, and historical milestones that shaped its journey and strengthened its standing on the global stage.

Preserving and honoring the legacy of Sheikh Zayed – may God rest his soul – is viewed as a shared national duty, ensuring that future generations remain inspired by his vision and values.

The museum’s collection features more than 3,000 artifacts, with 1,500 carefully selected pieces showcased to narrate the rich story of this land.

Visitors can explore an outdoor gallery – the “Al Masar Garden”, a 600-meter landscaped pathway functioning as an open-air exhibition that traces the human and civilizational history of the Emirates.

Inside, the museum comprises six permanent galleries, each focusing on a key theme:

  • The life and legacy of Sheikh Zayed
  • The natural environment
  • Early human presence
  • Social and cultural connections
  • Maritime heritage and coastal life
  • Traditional inland lifestyles

To mark its opening, the museum will present a wide range of programs, including live performances, interactive workshops, guided tours, and creative activities – offering visitors of all ages a rich and engaging cultural experience.
